STORY ARCS
What Is the Staff Arc? Synopsis and Key Scenes | When & Which Manga Volume [Chiikawa]
Overview
Synopsis
The story begins with everyday life, as Hachiware mutters "I want a camera" and chats with Chiikawa about how nice it would be if the things they wanted just came spilling out. Then, after Usagi points a skull-shaped staff at the ground, a large cake appears. Any connection to Hachiware's words is not explained. Next, when Hachiware swings the staff down, a black camera emerges in a puff of smoke, and Chiikawa and Hachiware cry out in surprise.
When Hachiware photographs a nearby flower with the camera, the flower that was there immediately seems to disappear. The camera is treated as a device that may directly cause changes to whatever it captures, but the reason is not explained. A red-colored Usagi also appears on screen. When Hachiware points the camera at the reddish Usagi and then tries to photograph Chiikawa as well, Chiikawa reacts anxiously, and Hachiware glances back and forth between the camera and the other's expression.
Eventually, Chiikawa grips the skull-shaped staff alone, facing large red and green hand-and-foot-like objects in a place as dark as a cave. Chiikawa thrusts the staff forward to keep a distance from the opponent, but what has appeared and how it connects to the camera incident are not explained. The contrast between Chiikawa's small body and the large limbs filling the screen conveys Chiikawa's fear and tension.
