In a quiet room at night, Hachiware lies awake unable to sleep. Concerned about the darkness outside, Hachiware calls out to and checks on a small creature-like figure near the bedding. Chiikawa appears to be resting, and Usagi does not react much immediately. Amidst the darkness outside the window and a moon-like light, Hachiware's eyes are drawn to a small sense of unease in the night.

Noticing the disturbance, Chiikawa takes a blue sasumata (catch pole) and approaches the small figure, quietly suppressing their footsteps. The figure stands up on long legs to a towering height, wraps its extended black arms around Chiikawa, and covers Chiikawa's mouth. A muffled cry reaches the sleeping Hachiware and Usagi, but the two do not wake immediately. Later, they notice the nighttime disturbance and a white figure caught by the black shadow.

In the dark woods, Hachiware stares at the black shadow and tries to move forward, not knowing how to rescue the captured one. Usagi continues chasing the shadow, which seems to be carrying something, so as not to lose sight of it. Hachiware, who has touched the black shadow and is finding it hard to move, also reaches out for a blue ribbon-like object right in front of them, while Chiikawa and Usagi watch the shadow's movements and actions from nearby.
