What is the Prison Arc? Synopsis and Memorable Scenes Summary | When & Which Manga Volume [Chiikawa]

In a cave-like place, Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi come face to face with Ode, a large one-eyed creature. Surrounded by Goblins, the four are tied up with braided cord and carried to an underground cell. After being made to wear black-and-white striped clothes, Ode explains that he was captured because he ate the mushrooms the Goblins had been carefully tending.

Outside the cell, a Goblin opens a cookbook and flips through the pages as if deciding whether to roast or boil something. With no way of knowing what will be cooked, the four watch as a metal plate with potatoes, green leaves, boiled beans, and water is passed through the bars. Hachiware is delighted by the plate and tastes the potatoes and beans, but Ode protests that it is not enough.

Along the wall of the cell, Usagi makes digging motions at a small hole. Ode reveals it is an escape tunnel he had been digging for some time and urges Chiikawa and the others to go through, but the hole is too small for Ode's large body. While the three try to proceed down the passage, Goblins remain on the outside, and it is uncertain whether they can escape without being discovered.
