Synopsis
The Weeding Certification: Sunfish Arc begins with Chiikawa entering an examination hall lined with numbered tags and facing the Grade Five Weeding Certification question paper. Seen off by Yoroi-san (Armor Knight) and greeted by Hachiware's voice at the entrance, Chiikawa thinks using diagrams and reference materials as clues while the surrounding examinees proceed with their answers. Even when getting stuck along the way, Chiikawa does not stop the pencil and tackles the exam without knowing if the answers are correct.
After the exam, Hachiware encourages Chiikawa, saying it seems like it will be fine this time. On the night before the results are announced, they spend it awake in their moonlit bedding, repeatedly telling themselves not to get anxious as they think about the outcome. Getting through the night where hope and worry alternately surface, Chiikawa and Hachiware head to the bulletin board for the Grade Five Weeding Certification passers the next day and begin looking for their numbers in the crowd.
The number on Chiikawa's admission ticket is "93". In front of the board, the two search for the same number, and amidst the joyful voices around them, Chiikawa momentarily squeezes their eyes shut and tenses up. The next moment, the two vigorously look up, but the post does not reveal any words indicating pass or fail. Through the two's reactions, the story follows their concentration toward the exam and the tension of the time spent waiting for the answers.
