MomongaChiikawaHachiware

Story guide

Momonga walks while expressing a desire for white rice and carrying a lidded container. When they open it, the inside is hollow; Momonga calls it a hole and worries that what they had expected is no longer available. Chiikawa and Hachiware watch from a short distance and say that what had been coming out of it seems to have collapsed. Still holding the empty container, Momonga decides to look for something else tasty and starts walking. The scene contrasts the desire for a place where food appears with the disappointment of not getting the expected white rice, as the three search elsewhere without resolving the cause.

Cultural and language noteWhite rice refers to polished rice cooked as a staple food. Here, it is the food expected to have been in the container.

ChiikawaHachiwareYoroi-san (Armor Knight)

Story guide

Many small customers gather outside a shop where Yoroi-san (Armor Knight) prepares food behind the counter. Seeing the crowded place, Chiikawa and Hachiware discuss going somewhere else, but they also notice a strong smell drifting from nearby. They move in front of a shop whose sign has only one character written on it and think about going to eat something fruit-like. However, the line of customers continues toward that shop as well, leaving them to watch the flow of the queue. The post shows the busy Yoroi-san shop, the smell of food, and the shifting line, but not what Chiikawa and Hachiware might have bought.

ChiikawaHachiwareUsagi

Story guide

Chiikawa and Hachiware see Usagi drop a small ring-like object onto the ground. When Usagi starts moving, nearby small creatures gather too, forming a circle and dancing as they sing. Hachiware recognizes it as something that seems to be in fashion, while Chiikawa watches the gathering. Usagi joins the circle and moves their body broadly, becoming part of the center of the song. The two watch how the circle changes with Usagi in it, and the scene ends as voices and movement spread. Rather than directly searching for a place where food appears, it depicts the dance of those gathered there.

MomongaChiikawa

Story guide

Momonga walks around the forest, repeatedly complaining that there is nothing tasty at all. Noticing a noise and peeking into the bushes, they see Chiikawa picking small fruits and placing them into a basket. Momonga mutters that it cannot be helped, then jumps onto Chiikawa's head, bites their head, and immediately spits it out. Chiikawa screams that they hate it and shakes their body, and Momonga flutters down lightly. Momonga complains that there is no flavor at all and spits, while Chiikawa sobs. Finally, Momonga demands to take another bite, and Chiikawa flees while hugging the basket and screaming.

ChiikawaMomonga

Story guide

Momonga bites Chiikawa and repeatedly complains that there is no umami. Chiikawa pulls Momonga off with force, sending Momonga tumbling with a cry. Trembling and close to tears, Chiikawa then offers a basket full of pink fruit. Momonga takes it and checks whether Chiikawa means to offer this as something else to eat, and Chiikawa nods. Momonga demands to be allowed to imitate that gesture and gives the same nod, making Chiikawa gasp. Finally, Momonga declares a desire for something tasty with a satisfying chew instead of fruit like this, sets the basket down, and throws a tantrum in refusal. Chiikawa watches with a tearful expression.

ChiikawaHachiwareMomonga

Story guide

Hachiware and Chiikawa meet Momonga carrying ice cream and say that it was too crowded to do Weeding or Subjugation today. Showing the tool they are holding, Hachiware asks whether Momonga was nearly eaten if something had followed them. Momonga does not answer that question clearly and looks back at the three while eating ice cream. Chiikawa wonders whether the two have become friends, but Momonga instead focuses on the shop having sold out and on their own trouble. Hachiware's straightforward checking and Momonga's interest in food do not line up, and the three remain where they are.

Cultural and language noteSubjugation refers to work that involves defeating dangerous opponents. Here, it is mentioned alongside Weeding as work the two intended to do.

ChiikawaHachiwareUsagiMomonga

Story guide

In a forest at night, Chiikawa and Hachiware walk to gather mushrooms, with Usagi nearby. They find Momonga eating mushrooms, and Hachiware invites them to go gathering together. Momonga is focused on eating and does not engage, but Hachiware explains that gathering brings a reward and would let them eat what they like. Chiikawa adds that they need to gather too, and the three wait for Momonga's answer. Momonga pushes back at their insistence but finally reacts as if considering gathering. The nighttime conversation turns from looking for food into an invitation to work.

Cultural and language noteGathering means collecting materials or food outdoors. Here, it refers both to picking mushrooms and to work that earns a reward.

HachiwareChiikawa

Story guide

As Chiikawa and Hachiware watch in a dark place, a small creature with a blue tail gathers mushrooms into a bag. The creature picks mushrooms one after another and increases its collection even as white round things attach to its body. Chiikawa is surprised by how much it has gathered, while Hachiware watches alongside them as they swallow something. The gathering creature indicates that it cannot keep doing this and leaves its position. Chiikawa and Hachiware look at the remaining mushrooms and bag and receive only the results of the gathering. Because the image does not confirm a proper name, it is described only as another small creature.

ChiikawaHachiwareMomonga

Story guide

After gathering, Chiikawa and Hachiware head to a diner with Momonga. The three receive small bags that appear to be a reward for their work. Momonga hurries because they want to eat, but Hachiware tells them that they need to put in their meal tickets first. Inside the diner is a sample breakfast set, and Chiikawa and Hachiware walk on while imagining the meal. Momonga keeps holding the bag and does not hide their expectation of something tasty. The reward for gathering becomes the payment for the three to eat a breakfast set together.

Cultural and language noteA breakfast set is a morning meal that combines rice, soup, and side dishes. A meal ticket system involves buying a ticket first to place and pay for an order.

ChiikawaHachiwareMomonga

Story guide

Chiikawa and Hachiware receive breakfast sets at the diner and are glad to be able to eat. Momonga eats rice at the same table and, after seeming unsettled at first, gradually focuses on the meal. When the three become full, Chiikawa and Hachiware feel as though they want to stay there until evening. As they keep eating, the outside grows light and the sun rises. Momonga seems satisfied after finishing, while Chiikawa and Hachiware consider leaving their seats. The breakfast set bought with the reward for gathering becomes a period of rest that lasts until dawn.

Cultural and language noteA breakfast set is a breakfast menu that often places rice and several side dishes on one tray. Here, it is a meal bought with the reward from gathering.

Ano-koChiikabu (the Beetle)

Story guide

Ano-ko sits beside a large leaf, humming the same tune with a 'tsuppa-tsuppa' as they carry the small, orange-striped things attached to their fingertips and toes one by one to their mouth. When a group of Chiikabu (the Beetle) charges in with a cry, Ano-ko swings the leaf and sends them flying. Even so, Chiikabu (the Beetle) approaches nimbly with an orange thing on their head, snorting and peering into Ano-ko's face. When several of them line up in front of them holding the same things, Ano-ko looks down without a word, letting out a short, questioning sound. After a bird's cry echoes, Ano-ko attaches them all over their hands and feet and sings the same tune, finally stomping their feet and bouncing happily.

ChiikawaHachiwareMomonga

Story guide

Large, round, bread-like foods spring up from the ground one after another, and small creatures gather beneath them. Hachiware notices that they have begun appearing in many places, while Chiikawa wonders whether the spread of the dance may also be connected. Momonga quickly takes one and eats it, finding it delicious. Chiikawa and Hachiware are also glad that food has appeared and look up at it springing forth. Momonga keeps eating, and Chiikawa tears up with happiness. The discovery of food draws many together, and the scene ends with the three showing their separate reactions.

UsagiHachiwareChiikawa

Story guide

Usagi bites into a round bread, and Chiikawa and Hachiware see the inside and realize it may contain meat. Hachiware comments on the meat's sweetness and saltiness, and Chiikawa tastes it with them. Usagi eats another bread, while the two keep considering what is inside. Hachiware is surprised that a bread that looks like melonpan has a meat-like filling, but accepts it after trying it. Chiikawa and Hachiware receive bread and eat the same thing beside Usagi. It is a meal that enjoys the difference between the appearance and filling.

Cultural and language noteMelonpan is a sweet bread known for a crisscross pattern on its surface. Here, the point is the surprise of a bread that looks like it but has a meat-like filling.

Usagi

Story guide

This is a single illustration of Usagi lying low. There is no background, prop, or speech bubble; only Usagi's long ears, round face, and body stretched out sideways appear against white. Because no text explains whether Usagi is moving, resting, or troubled by something, this pose alone cannot establish the specific circumstances. Without adding a story event or a conversation partner, the post can be read as simply showing Usagi lying quietly. Although there are chapter titles before and after it, this image does not reveal the cause or resolution of any abnormality and ends with the impression of Usagi's expression and form.

Yoroi-san (Armor Knight)Momonga

Story guide

Yoroi-san (Armor Knight) finds Momonga with their fur spread out widely and asks them to face forward to check their condition. Momonga asks to have their cute expression seen, and when Yoroi-san places a hand on their head, the unruly fur becomes even more noticeable. Yoroi-san brings out scissors to tidy it, while Momonga reacts to the movement and onlookers gather. The post does not settle whether Yoroi-san will cut the fur or simply fix the tangles. It ends as a clash between Yoroi-san's effort to deal with an untidy appearance and Momonga's concern with how they are seen.

Usagi

Story guide

Usagi is drawn alone against white with a short string of sounds beside them whose meaning cannot be fully understood. Usagi faces forward with their ears raised and seems to be vocalizing, but no other person, place, or background is shown. The lettering conveys the sound's tone, but it cannot be determined whether it is a question, a song, or a signal to someone. With no panels or actions before and after, there is no specific event to summarize; only Usagi's expression and vocalization can be confirmed. Although the image appears within the Withered Arc, it does not support inferring another character's state or what happens next.

Yoroi-san (Armor Knight)

Story guide

Yoroi-san (Armor Knight) and the others bring homemade boxed lunches, calling out to each other to eat together. After the introductions of rolled omelets and fried chicken continue, a container of dadacha beans comes out. The Yoroi-san (Armor Knight)s who hear the name ask back in surprise, and when they realize it is beans, they are impressed and praise the person who brought it for knowing their stuff. Yoroi-san (Armor Knight) starts eating by pushing the beans out of the pod into their mouth, and the surrounding Yoroi-san (Armor Knight)s also reach out, unable to stop eating, telling each other to have one more. They continue eating without anyone stepping in to stop them, and it ends with them nodding together at the impression that it is almost like a staple food.

Chiikawa

Story guide

This is a solo illustration of Chiikawa stretched out lengthwise. Against a white background, Chiikawa looks quietly forward with their eyes open, with no objects, ground, speech bubbles, or other characters nearby. Nothing indicates whether Chiikawa is asleep, unable to move, or simply resting, so this image alone cannot establish a cause or feeling. It is not a panel that advances a story but a self-contained post showing Chiikawa lying flat. Its place in the Withered Arc is known, but it does not supply an abnormality or recovery that is absent from the image.

Momonga

Story guide

This is a single illustration of Momonga in the center of a white background with both hands raised near their cheeks. No other people, small black creatures, throwing motion, or speech bubbles are drawn, so the image cannot confirm a particular game or conversation. Momonga's eyes are wide open and may look expectant, but there is no text that determines an emotion or purpose. Since there is also no basis for linking the chapter-title word to this pose alone, it is treated here as a solo visual of Momonga. Nothing about events before or after, a partner, or a result is added; only the visible gesture is retained as confirmable.

Hachiware

Story guide

Although this post is registered to Hachiware, the actual image shows only another small creature with a blue tail and round ears, pressing both hands to their cheeks. The background is solid pale red, with no conversation, companion, food, or elements showing movement before or after. The ears and forehead features that would identify the figure as Hachiware are not visible, so this image cannot be used to describe what Hachiware did as a story. The only visible gesture is a still pose with hands on the cheeks, and its feeling or reason is not determined. The mismatch between the image and label is retained without adding events absent from the image.
